Cahaba River Blueway Plan

Imagine this — a series of well-designed, accessible, low-impact public recreation sites up and down the Cahaba River, linked with trails, cultural, historic and other tourism attractions in Cahaba communities. According to organizers with the Cahaba River Society, one of the partners in the collaboration, this proposed Cahaba Blueway has the potential to link unique natural, historic and cultural assets of our communities, to enrich our lives and help our communities reach their potential.

Also involved are the Cahaba River Society, The Nature Conservancy of Alabama and Alabama Innovation Engine, a design-based economic development initiative that is a partnership between Auburn University’s School of Architecture Urban Studio and the University of Alabama’s Center for Economic Development. The organizations have combined resources and expertise to coordinate the Cahaba Blueway’s longterm development.
